Cottagecore...
Cottagecore (also known as Farmcore or Countrycore) is an aesthetic influenced by Western agricultural life's romanticized perception. It is founded on thoughts about a simpler life and harmony with nature. The survival of the world, food, and caring for people are some of the related themes. While the aesthetic is dominant on many social media platforms, such as Instagram and, more recently, TikTok, the Tumblr community is especially successful. Within the WLW community, it is especially common.
Cottagecore has also been criticized for its romanticism of eurocentric farming life, and in the sense of North American and Australian environments, an inadvertent celebration of the aesthetics of colonialism, as well as the ways it frequently simplifies and underestimates the work of farmers, despite a number of its adherents taking an often radical and subversive perspective on life.
The use of Cottagecore aesthetics has been adopted by the TradWives community and members of the far-right as means of propaganda because of these connotations. Despite their hostility to LGBTQ+ and anti-capitalist adherents of Cottagecore, this has culminated in media scrutiny.
Aesthetics such as Grandparentcore, which tend to evoke a similar sense of nostalgia, are often contrasted with Cottagecore. It is equivalent to Naturecore and Warmcore as well.
Subgénres
Bloomcore Records
Bloomcore is an aesthetic in many respects close to Cottagecore, except in a small, quaint village, it has more of a centralized emphasis on flowers and gardening.
Cottagegore
Cottagegore is a darker take on the aesthetic of Cottagecore with more emphasis on the more negative aspects of cottage and natural life from which Cottagecore frequently seeks to step away.
HoneyCore
Honeycore is an aesthetic focused on the cultivation and consumption of products like honey, bread, and waffles in rural areas. As agricultural imagery and ideals are stressed, it is similar to Cottagecore, but the visuals are simplified to create a color palette of mostly pale yellows and browns. Bees, pollen, or flowers can be seen in many of the photos that can be grouped into the Honeycore aesthetic, and there is a major focus on agriculture and bee conservation.
Cottagecore Southwest
Southwest Cottagecore, cottagecore's green color palette, moves away from the trees. The willows and vines with succulents are swapped out. Simply adapted to more southern/western life, the main aspects are quite similar. Instead of a stone cottage, you could choose a yucca-framed adobe home. The trend is more suitable for warm weather and is typically combined with warm colors and the whimsical look of the occasional beach. The beachy side of this is characterized by the coast and beachgrass run-down shacks. Charecterizing the aesthetic are lizards, rodents, snakes, and hawks.
